Rebecca Schaeffer, Graduate Clinical Intern
“Owning our story and loving ourselves through that process is the bravest thing we’ll ever do.” — Brené Brown
As a therapist I view the mind, body, and emotions as deeply interconnected, constantly influencing one another. My goal is to help clients build self-awareness around their inner experiences, their impact on the world, and their relationship with the present moment.
I believe that healing begins with taking ownership of our emotional and behavioral patterns. It’s a powerful act to look inward with honesty and compassion and to understand how our experiences shape us and how we, in turn, shape the lives of those around us. In therapy, I support clients in exploring these dynamics with curiosity and care. I’m especially drawn to working with clients who are experiencing depression, anxiety, postpartum depression, grief, and life transitions.
I enjoy working with individuals who are open to growth, even when it feels uncomfortable. I aim to create a space where you can feel comfortable in the uncomfortable and both challenged and supported.
My approach draws from Gestalt and Existential therapies, which center the here-and-now experience and the search for personal meaning. In practice, this means inviting clients to explore how they show up in the present moment physically, emotionally, and relationally. Through experiential techniques, dialoguing with different parts of the self, and reflecting on freedom, choice, and responsibility, clients can begin to uncover what truly matters to them.
Additionally, my approach weaves together traditional talk therapy with integrative, body-based practices. I draw from mindfulness, somatic awareness, and narrative therapy. In practice, this might look like incorporating breathwork, body scans, movement, time in nature, or re-authoring your internal narratives to foster resilience and agency. These methods help clients reconnect with their present-moment experience and honor the wisdom of both body and mind.
I hope every client leaves our work with a deeper sense of authenticity and greater self-trust.
I am here; I am with you.
