“Every person is born with the power to create. This power is of the spirit and through its use, one awakens and grows” (Cane, 1983).
My name is Susan Sisk-Price. I am a Licensed Clinical Professional Art Therapist. I have been treating children and adolescents for over 20 years. My specialties include Art and Play Therapy, which both involve engaging a child in the creative process. The creative process offers an outlet for children through images, stories, and metaphors. It offers ways to bring order out of chaos, and is a vehicle for the expression of fears, wish fulfillments, and fantasies. Creative expression offers avenues for dealing with frustrations and impulses, and aides in developing communication skills to enhance self worth. Most of all, the creative process provides opportunities to address and integrate trauma. There are many types of childhood trauma. Having worked extensively with child victims of Domestic Violence and sexual abuse, it seems, at the core of trauma, is the inability to trust. The inability to trust often results in many behavioral and emotional challenges. The creative process can help build trust with the self and others, fostering a more secure attachment. We connect to a healing force when we create, and it helps us to awaken and grow!
I provide both individual and family therapy. My specialties include childhood trauma disorders, including, Reactive Attachment Disorders, Posttraumatic Stress Disorder, and Adjustment Disorders. In addition, I treat anxiety and depressive disorders. Social anxiety seems to be on the rise in our youth today, as well as depression. Healing from Trauma is a journey, and I look forward to working with you and your child by providing a safe place to explore and grow through the creative process.
