If you are a dreamer, come in,
If you are a dreamer, a wisher, a liar,
A hope-er, a pray-er, a magic bean buyer…
If you’re a pretender, come sit by my fire
For we have some flax-golden tales to spin.
You have a story that needs to be heard; I seek to provide a safe, healing, and nonjudgmental place for you to tell it. My name is Shana; I am an intuitive and open-minded therapist and licensed clinical social worker (LCSW-C). I have a strong background in crisis response and clinical counseling related to: trauma, anxiety, depression, grief, complex and life-limiting illness, and end of life transitions. I enjoy working with a diverse variety of people with a special focus on: LGBTQ issues, women’s issues and older adults. I use a variety of resources to try to help people navigate their journey; and integrate a variety of therapeutic techniques— such as mindfulness and bibliotherapy— dependent upon individual needs.
I view therapy as a collaborative relationship. You are the expert in your own life and the author of your own story. In therapy, I seek to create a warm and open place for you to examine your story; a place outside the constraints of the various roles you assume so you are able to examine and cultivate your most authentic self. One of my favorite therapeutic frameworks is storytelling. By encouraging people to engage in storytelling, I try to help them identify patterns that keep recurring in their lives. Together, we can work to identify ways to cultivate the positive patterns and weed out the ones that are problematic. Storytelling helps us understand the way we think about, relate to, and incorporate our past. Storytelling also helps us examine, plan and anticipate the story of our lives: present and going forward.
My job is to use an open mind, open heart and healthy sense of humor to create a safe and inviting space for you to tell your story. Your job is to tell it.
